Is the braided copper shield wire on the Canare cable also the negative wire?
Are you suppose to twist it into a wire configuration and solder it to the negative post on the 1/4" jack?

Yes, that is the shield/GND. |

Also make sure you cut back the black layer under it so it is not near the positive lug.

We are talking the THIN black layer here, NOT the (real) insulation that is inside THAT.... hope that makes sense...
