Fair warning, this vocal ballad doesn't include a steel solo (although there's plenty of steel in a supporting role).
However you may find it interesting in at least one regard. I was initially thinking I'd use either organ or pedal steel on the verses. I figured I'd start by putting down MIDI drums, scratch bass, and organ as a reference to build on, and guessed that I'd eventually pull the organ part and replace it with pedal steel playing a similar but not identical part. I did that, and added a Leslie simulation and a bit of chorus to make it more organ-like. Sounded good, but there was something missing. Hmmm, what if I put the organ back in and pan them for a nice stereo effect? That's what I ended up with, and I really like the effect. If you have a moment to listen, let me know what you think...

My opinion, easy listening, every sound blends and fits, relaxed vocal, like the touch of organ, mouth organ playing great, steel sounds also clear and a pleasure to hear. |
