April 10 2021: I travel I-70 between Kansas City and Central PA from time to time and when I'm about FM range from St. Louis I tune into FM 88.1. To my surprise there was some mention of the International Steel Guitar Convention (of course gone not forgotten). A little tribute to Scotty by the announcer. It was mentioned it was the anniversary of Scotty's birthday April 10, so played a piece by Scotty. I really miss those convention days. I looked up the playlist from that Saturday and found here. A lots of other fine steel guitar numbers. I don't think you can actually listen to the archived playlist, but there are what look to be some sound snippets but very limited.

That would be Dewitt Scott. The late proprietor of Scotty's Music in St. Louis, author of a number of steel guitar instruction books, and founder of the International Steel Guitar Convention that was held in St. Louis annually.
I had the good fortune to hear him play lap steel at the last Steelin' For Hearts show at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. His playing was a major highlight of the show, which otherwise featured pedal steel greats--Buddy Charleton, Herby Wallace, Jimmie Crawford, John Hughey, Buck Reid. Six strings and no pedals, and I liked his playing as much as any of the others. |

I saw him at a few steel guitar shows in either Wisconsin or Iowa.
He just liked to play his Rickenbacker frypan.
And he was good at it.
