IF you were to give up the 8th ("Boowah") CHANGE, what would you rather have instead on that pedal to the right of the standard 7th pedal?

Something to get a middle D note, maybe? It could raise the C or lower the E. (I actually do both on knee levers.)

I sorta second Bob's suggestion. I use tyhe Paul Franklin change that raises A to C and C to D. It gives you and inside diatonic run - C, D, E. And if you put it next to pedal 5 ("D pedal") you get C,D,E,F# - just the like inside run on the E9 tuning. It's great for doing speed licks up the neck.

I do drop my middle E to D.
My bottom string is tuned to D to (instead of C).
I like P. Franklin's "split"-8th pedal approach... but I am still debating on keeping that change as a whole.
Maurice had a "Reece"-pedal... I believe it gave him a quick V

I LIKE that change a lot because I feel the iim open to V change using the 5th pedal is weak unless you spread the chord to a 13th with the B-to-Bb lever added. (4 note wide grip starting at the 10th string and ending at the 3rd).
That pedal creates a "creamy" transition because of the bar movement. Many notes stay still because they are raised back up... but some are dragged down half and one which is pulled down is dragged down further.
Also PF has another unique pedal on the far left.
IF I had to choose a tuning without being able to customize, I would go with Jody's or PF's... except for the fact that I insist on having my 10th string tuned up D.
The smart concept of changes is, how much can you ALTER a change with the other existing changes. Pedals 5, 6 and 7 are excellent changes as they can accept adding other pedals and quite a good number of knee levers.
The "Boowhah" DOES accept the B-to-B-lower... actually it thrives from it... it can also be combined with the 7th pedal (creating somewhat of a B11'th tuning).

I would like to know what PF's "split" approach is.
The only P8 change I use regularly is the 7th string raise, so I have it on a lever and seldom lower 9 and 10. I think if you ditch P8 you still need to be able to raise 7 somehow.

PF has part of the ol' "Boowhah" change on a lever and part on his last right pedal. He describes the thinking behind it in his course. It makes sense... a lot of sense... as long as one really wants to keep that change as a whole.
This is an older setup chart... but it already incorporates the "splitting" of the "Boowhah"-pedal (I hate this name... but for the sake of avoiding confusion...) into Ped-9 and LKL
