A friend of mine asked me about a D13-tuning for his 8-string Weissenborn. I have no idea ...
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! |

I like Leon McAuliffe’s E13. Tuned down to D it would be this with a couple of variations thrown in
D
B
A
F#
E or D
C
F# or A
D |

D13 is a cool tuning.
It morphs out of Open G very easily.
The 6 string version I use is:
D
B
F#
D
C
A
On an 8 string I'd put an A note above the F# and probably a low root on the bottom much like the LM tuning mentioned.
D
B
A
F#
D
C
A
D
A high F# would be cool too, instead of the low root;
F#
D
B
A
F#
D
C
A |

Jules Ah See used C13, so cranked up to D13 (high on top)
F# (high)
D
B
A
F#
D
C
D (low)
The advantage here might be if your pal is familiar with C6, this is C6 with a couple of extra notes on the bottom.
Personally, I'm lately messing around with the Alkire and Leavitt tunings. With 8 strings, I'd probly try a variant of Leavitt. Not really a D13, but incredibly flexible tuning that I'm just starting to monkey with.
Maybe:
E (high)
D
C
Bb
G
E
C#
A (low)
or
F (high)
E
D
C
Bb
G
E
C# (low) |

Thank you for your suggestions! As my friend wants to use it on an acoustic guitar, I think he will try one of the tunings with the root at the bottom ... |
