OK. I'm feeing old since I can't figure this out.

I recently bought a steel guitar black box. Now I know my freeloader turns off by pulling out the input plug.. I know the Sarno crew don't like having unnecessary parts that could break, but do I want this little guy on all the time?

My practice amp is an old Princeton Reverb and the SGBB just cools down the highs a bit so I like having it setup all the time... Also do I want to have the tube constantly powered?

What does everybody else do? Just unplug it when not using it... just leave it powered?

Sorry I can't figure this out on my own... I DID try searching and surprisingly didn't find a hit on this topic which has almost certainly been discussed... it has for the freeloader..

Thanks and Sorry,
Jon

It is on as long as it's plugged in. I leave mine on without worrying about it--12AX7s don't pull much electricity, and they last a long time. I think that powering them up and down is probably tougher on the heaters in the tube than leaving them on.

If your Princeton Reverb is old enough to feature the AC socket on the rear panel, plug your BB into that and it should turn on and off with the amp.

Or, plug it into an outlet strip with an on/off switch.

David(s). Thanks for confirming. I wasn't sure about the power and wear on the 12AX7s... i was guessing leaving it plugged would be bad....

I do have a rear plug... never thought if it, but that's a hot tip.

Thanks
Jon

The courtesy outlet on the back of the old Fender amps is on regardless of power switch setting, if I remember correctly.

You mentioned a Freeloader. You don't need to use it and the Black Box. It would be redundant. The variable Z in the Black Box and the Freeloader are one in the same.
