Has anyone tried using Yellow Jacket tube adaptors to reduce the power output on a dual 6L6 amp? I know EL84 power tubes are not generally the tubes of choice for PSG. Maybe the tone is all wrong for clean traditional PSG. But I recall bOb saying he used to use a Mesa with those tubes and he liked it.

I'm finding that even a pair of 6L6s is more power than I need for playing at home. I am NOT going to buy another amp. Maybe this is a viable option.

What say you?

You might consider an amp attenuator. These devices help reduce the power output on your amp to acceptable practice levels. Passive units run in the $50.00 range.

I'll be the first to ask: What model of amp is it?

The amp is a Peavey Classic Series 60, a rackmount power amp from the 80s I believe.

I forgot about attenuators. That should work, but I'm still curious about these Yellow Jacket adaptors and EL84 power tubes.

You also might want to check out the actual height requirements with the Yellow Jacket adapter and EL84 tube combination. There is a definite height restriction in that rack mount amp and the EL84 tubes are not short, especially with the Yellow Jackets.
