I didn't want to hijack Dom Franco's thread about what a great year 1976 was for him, so I'll mention my '76 here.

I'd been a trainee engineer for a few months and this is the surviving track from my first solo session with the radio orchestra. There was no multitrack (or time for remixing) so it was always straight to stereo - ten numbers in 3 hours!

I'm not gonna lie - I love it. It's a very 70s recording with the lush (and real - no synths here!) but very clear and articulate sounds and picked electric bass. But I love that 70s sound and in some way think it is the apex of sound design before overproduction became the norm.

I'm inclined to agree. That was about the time recording engineers went from just "capturing" music to creating music. There was never a time like the '70s, when so much variety and originality was so evident in the pop music charts.
