It greatly depends on your expectations and how you will use the tracks you purchase. The cost for session musicians depends on if the backing tracks are for demo or if they will be published. Do you want just backing tracks or will you also want vocalist and backing vocals?

Here is a link to the Nashville Musician's Union that discusses basic rates: https://www.nashvillemusicians.org/recording.

In addition to session musicians you need to think about the cost of the recording space, arranger and producer.

Some musicians have home studios and will provide a track at a flat rate. Best way to find them is by performing an internet search.

For almost the cost of renting session musicians, recording studio, arranger and producer for one song (my guess is at least $500 US) you could purchase the most expensive version of Band-in-a-Box which would give you more than 3000 hours of backing tracks performed by session musicians. https://www.pgmusic.com/bbwin.packages.htm

If you don't mind looking outside Nashville, check out Fiverr: Typically audio samples are available and rates are normally negotiable. https://www.fiverr.com/categories/music-audio/session-musicians?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=g_us_general_dsa_all-pages_desktop&utm_term=us_dsa_all_pages&utm_content=AdID%5e465841488683%5eKeyword%5e%5ePlacement%5e%5eDevice%5ec&caid=11124881507&agid=108733477563&ad_id=465841488683&kw=&lpcat=br_general&show_join=true&gclid=Cj0KCQiAhZT9BRDmARIsAN2E-J0GU9bLUftdz4UTX0xF_2CPm2L097UeKtPMuEupbcBnd6RAnJM6dOIaAruaEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Don't forget about your forum mates. Many of them play multiple kinds of instruments, sing and have home recording studios. The forum has a Jobs section here where you can advertise your needs: https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewforum.php?f=20

Hi Ray
In 2007 when I did my first album in town we selected a song for the single that we had promoted to try to get charted on the Billboard & Music Row Charts.
I owned 100% of both the writer's rights AND publishing rights to all of the music
We kept it out like eight weeks and back then were paying $5k a week to some folks that had worked with Atlantic Records back in the day just for promotion only and it still didn't chart.
It's a money game anymore and isn't even about the music.
Imagine that
LOL

As W.C. says above ! Another thing, what is the purpose of your recording ? Why are you even doing it ? What are your expectations ?

Only you can answer.

And don't forget, you can contact many "OFF" Music Row studios, such as Randy Kohrs. Randy is quite accomplished and can give you some excellent insight .

Have fun! Bring money ! Very Happy
