Ray passed on Thurs. Aug.27th. from complications of Alzheimer's. He was inducted into the Cowtown Society of Western Swing Music, the Western Swing Society of Texas and the California Western Swing Hall of Fame. In 2014 Ray received the Western Swing Hero Award and was recognized by then Governor Rick Perry. He backed many artist including Floyd Tillman,Hank Thompson,Johnny Gimble,Frenchie Burke and Johnny Bush. He played guitar and fiddle and was a gifted vocalist as well. I played many, many gigs with him and he will be missed. RIP Ray, Heaven gained a great guitar picker!

Roy Carrol speaks truth. I too loved Ray and Bernice, great folks, and Ray's understated but totally in the pocket guitar stylings were so easy to work with. One of the least "flashy" but totally "right" pickers I'd had the pleasure of sitting next to. RIP Mr. Ray...

Thank you for posting this remembrance of Ray. He was one of my favorites to listen to and play with. I agree fully with what Herb said. I had the honor to play once a month for many years with Ray and Bert Rivera and it always a treat to hear them work together. Ray was a warm and encouraging person and I miss him dearly.
