Heya,
Just picked up a Gibson EH150 with CC pick up. I got it for a damn good price imho. But the pots only seem to function at max, otherwise nothing out of the pickup. Could this be a pickup issue? or the pots?
Both pots are on the right hand side, and in the little secret compartment found the metal cover thing. And two springs.
This thing sounds damn good, and I'd love to get it in working condition.
The tech at the store I got it from said it's due to the nature of their audio taper pots... but my gibson eh185 the pots work fine, they're the same pots, no?
I kinda know the audio taper thing is BS. Or maybe I just don't know! any help would be greatly appreciated!
the store dated it as a 1936. It's not the prettiest, but...when the pickups working, it sounds damn good! Now I want a 185 with a CC pickup... |

serial # EGE 4886, so it looks like it'd not be a 37, but 39 and onward ? |

It is likely a 1939 model. The pickup is probably good if it sometimes works. These read under 2k ohms so don't be surprised and expect 6 or 8k. I would look for bad connections or solder joints and spray some electronic cleaner into the pots. That's most likely the answer. I find these some of the most comfortable to play models of steel. They sit just right for me. _________________ Time flies like an eagle

Typically, a taper that is all piled up at the top of the range would indicate a linear taper pot is installed in a place where an audio taper pot should go.
