Thank's for the kind words. I used a Lap King Guitar ,built by Jason Dumont. It has two Lollar pickups. There's an oahu copy in the bridge and a goldfoil in the neck position. I recorded my part direct , using a Strymon Iridium as an amp simulator. I forgot what overdrive I used but I did go through a fender mirror image delay and a fender marine layer reverb. Those are both from the new line of Fender pedals. They're incredibly musical.
I tuned to DADGAD then capo'ed to G using a scheerhorn capo.
I recorded to protools using a UA apollo interface and a NEVE channel strip plug in. I was pretty happy with the tone.

Nice tune and playing. The song's chords remind me a bit of the song "Temple of the King" by the rock band Rainbow (Which has a slide guitar solo by Ritchie Blackmore, I think.)

The other player's lap steel capo looks like "Charlie's Slide Pro Capo." I've heard that it's THE best capo for steel. I've been meaning to get one (or a few if they're really that good) for a while.

Thank you so much for the kind words Jacek, I really appreciate that! I actually haven't heard Temple of the King but I should have a listen to it!
You're absolutely right it is a Charlie's Slide Pro capo I have. I've had it for a couple years now. I was looking for a capo that didn't kill the tone when in use, and I have been completely impressed. It's quite heavy, and the tone sounds just as good (maybe even better sometimes!) as without a capo. It was by far the best thing I tried, but I didn't get to try the Scheerhorn one that Bruce has. His tone was awesome so I'm sure it's great too!
My Charlie's has been coming a little loose lately, slipping sometimes while playing, but I remember Charlie making a video explaining that the tube underneath may wear out. You can replace it at any hardware store! I'll have to look into it and see if that's what it is. But Charlie has awesome service and is a super nice guy! |

Hi Bob, thank you so much for the kind words!
I used my Supro Airliner steel (dated sometime '64-'68 according to the serial number). It has the original string-through pickup, and the three legs in the case. I love that guitar, it's been my main steel for a few years! My capo is a Charlie's Slide Pro capo which I love.
I played that through a Marshall JTM 45 clone, built by a guy named Steve Moratto here in Canada, with an Analogman King of Tone pedal and some reverb and delay (Boss DD-20, Strymon Timeline and Neunaber Immerse). Recorded the amp direct through a Suhr Reactive Load with an IR (simulation of a Celestion Vintage 30) in Pro Tools. |
