What you have there is a 1945/46 Post-War B6.

You can tell this because of a few features:

The 1.25" Horseshoe;
The chrome bezel that it's mounted to;
The bridge that's mounted onto the body;
The 'T' shaped headstock logo plate.

I believe that sometime in 1946, the spelling on the headstock was changed to the now-familiar Rickenbacker,
likely to capitalize of the fame of the WWII flying ace, Eddie of the same name and to minimize having the "-bacher" spelling associated with its German roos.

As to the black plates... If Todd says it's original to the guitar--it's original. I stand corrected.

Good luck with your sale.

I have seen enough black plates on Bakelites out there to rule out that "they are not original and painted".

I have seen this comment on many peoples add's and I am unsure it is warranted.

I would assume this is an original "black plate" Bakelite guitar.

Thanks, Todd. You would know better than I. Thanks for adding to my info on these guitars. Any idea how rare they are?

Wow. A blacked out Ricky. That is the sexiest B-6 I've ever seen.

You are correct. This model was created after WWII and the strings were attached to a steel plate; instead of going through holes in the body like the pre-war models.
