Wow. He'll be missed. Besides being a bigger-than-life person he was genuinely nice to everyone around him, no matter how low on the totem pole of the business. Whenever he was at the studio where I work he'd enter the room with a loud and cheerful, "HI, FELLERS!"
I'll miss his cheerfulness and straightforwardness.

This is a tough one, along with the MTB, Charlie was one of my first introductions to country music up here in New York Metropolitan area.
I loved 'High Lonesome' and 'Saddle Tramp' and remember hearing his Volunteer Jams on the 'King Biscuit Flower Hour' on the radio.
The first concert I ever went to was at the Ocean Ice Palace in Brick, NJ in 1978, it was the loudest show I have ever been to, but one of the best I've ever seen.
Rest in Peace, Charlie, what a great patriot and genuinely genuine man!

Wow;I played with him back in 2000;I had a 103 fever that night & Charlie seemed genuinely concerned for me; said I shoulda cancelled, & I said "How do you cancel on Charlie Daniels" & he laughed. He will be missed.

Sad to see this great guy go. In 1991 I was laying a natural gas line by a golf course in Salina, Ks. He was near by I said hello Charlie how you doing he came over and said doing fine but please don't tell any body I'm here I don't get out and relax like this. So I did as he asked. Wes

Sad to hear about the passing of Charlie Daniels.
While I didn't agree with all of his conservative views particularly later in his life he was a great musician.
I enjoyed reading his early biography and storybook-
The Devil went down to Georgia.
I got this signed and off his website some years ago, so I will always treasure that.
I liked that he had a well maintained website and online presence which very few of the older musicians have.

In the mid 70's I was playing in a duet; organ player Ralph Bagly and myself on guitar and steel. Mostly guitar. I think the place was called Nero's Cactus Canyon?? Charlie used to frequent the place. We had just finished a song and this big guy in a cowboy hat walked up to me and said, "How about playing something on that steel guitar"? I said, sure. He then went back to his back room where he was eating by himself and got back into his steak. Ralph, who had been playing there a long time, said, You know who that was? No, I said. That's Charlie Daniels. I played "Last Date" for him on the steel.
He always seemed so authentic and a really likeable dude. He later became an unapologetic christain. I'll miss him also. Thanks Charley. See Ya.

Sad to see him go, as he was a great person as well as great musician and entertainer.
Looking back, Charlie and I had some connections over the years. Mountain Smoke did a show with him at Frontier City in OKC in 1977. About 4 years later, he and I both were with US Tobacco - He a celebrity spokesman and me a factory rep working central Oklahoma. UST co-sponsored a CDB concert, and I got to help with it. Then, in the '90's Mountain Smoke did another show with him at the college in Weatherford, OK. At some point, he played the White House, and I played there in 1977.
