I have had this thing around for years but never had a use for it. I plugged my steel into it and was surprised to find out how good it sounds.
It doesn't have the sound that some use in dance halls.
It sounds great on stuff from the 50s like Don Helms played on.

James, I have a Pignose 30w tube amp that will handle guitar fine. Never tried it with steel because of lower power. I may give it a shot with a lap steel. |

Larry, mine has 30W also. I only play steel at home, so it is fine for that. It works great for making recording with a 1950s sound on the steel.

James,
I played through one at a rehearsal at someone’s house once and at low volumes it sounded pretty good. It’s got me thinking so I bought the 40 W model, alltube and had my amp guy do a bunch of stuff including bigger transformers ,changing cap values, speaker swap, etc and could just never get it clean enough to be usable on a gig. I ended up putting way more money into it than I should have. So I guess to answer your question if you’re gonna play at home, It’s fine. Anything more than that you’re gonna run into trouble.
Funny thing is the amp was designed for pig nose by my former amp tech, Dennis Kager, Who was the designer of the sundown amplifier series. Unfortunately had already passed away before I dove into my pig nose experiment. Have he been around he probably would’ve told me to be very afraid. |

No Barry. They made some tube amps for a while. Mine is a G40v. Tubes all the way. |
