Good point. My current electric is a 4 string mandola so I could sound more like Johnny.

That's a beautiful instrument, John!

I play a baritone uke. That looks like a good electric option to me. Who made it?

I bought a cheapo electric mandolin and took 4 of the strings off of it. Awesome addition to steel dominated recordings. My second recent mando purchase was a $79 acoustic with a pickup with Johnny Gimble's tuning (low C) and it sounds awesome through a tube amp. Got these after owning a few expensive Gibsons and found out that they didn't allow me to play like Chris Thile.

My most recent mandolin was a mid-range custom that needed a LOT of work. Send it to Jerry Rosa of Rosa String Works and for $500 he put on a new tail piece, button, new low profile frets, new nut, new bridge and strings along with all the labor to shape and fit those items and make it a player. Got a video coming of all the work that Jerry did but you can view a lot of his videos on YouTube.

I play mando. What I like about it is you can really make some great music somewhat easily once you learn the basics of the neck.

Here is a cut off an album I played mando on. I probably hadn't touched my mando in a year before doing this session, but thankfully it didn't require massive chops. The mando (comes in at 0:25) added so much to this tune.

BTW, I originally had this complex lick at 0:45 but after hearing the lyrics I changed it to copy the intro guitar lick on John Denver's COUNTRY ROADS as the subject matter seemed similar. The singer, Ashley Sofia, loved the nod to John Denver.

My local music store is an Eastman dealer and has an F-style mandolin on order. I have an Eastman guitar and the fit & finish is very nice. Thanks to all that responded. Massachusettes has a tax free weekend in August and that would be a good time to make the purchase.

I have an Eastman El Ray mandolin on order and should take delivery in 6 weeks. It's a semi-hollow design with a Lollar pickup with a volume and tone control. Smile
