For someone that's not real tech
savy, is BIAB easy enough, mainly
for making tracks to play along
with.?
Also, do you need a computer , or
can you use your phone? Dumb
question probably. Oh Well

If I have a chart for the song, I can have a practice track in five minutes or less. If you need breaks, pushes, or other special details, it may take a little longer. The learning curve isn’t real steep for simple stuff, and someone here on the SGF can always steer you in the right direction if you need help. I’ve not heard of anyone having on their phone.

Hi Terry,

There's Band-in-a-Box program for Windows and Macintosh laptop or desktop computers but there isn't a Band-in-a-Box app for tablets or smartphones.

There is a forum section for Band-in-a-Box here: https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewforum.php?f=27.

There are a lot of Band-in-a-Box song files premade and available from other forum members or through an internet search.

Ok thanks Jim. I have
a laptop and a desktop computer
just don't have internet. I'm
going to have Hughes net hooked
back up, had it disconnected several
years ago.
Can you tell me how to transfer my
music files from my phone to my
computer? So I can burn a CD so ill have
a track to play with. I know I can
play the track through my phone into
my amp, but rather have a CD .thanks

Terry,

Does your cell phone have a USB port? Most cell phones do since they use the USB port for charging. But the USB port can also be used to transfer files between the cellphone and your computer. So your just need the cellphone and a USB cable.

You might need to contact your cellphone provider and ask them what steps you need to perform on the cellphone so the cellphone can connect to your computer and transfer files. Every cellphone has a different way. Some cellphones need to be powered down to corectly connect to a computer while other cellphones need to be powered up.

Once your cellphone is correctly connected to your computer your computer will recognize your cellphone as a "mass storage device". Your computer also considers digital cameras, USB memory sticks, external hard drives and SD cards as "mass storage devices".

You can use Windows file manager to see that Windows assigned the cellphone a drive letter and a drive name (which is most likely the name of the cellphone manufacturer).

Most cellphones place everything you download into a folder called "Downloads". So once you find the cellphone "Downloads" folder you should be able to see the song files and copy them to your computer.

Some phones have to be told that you want to transfer data. How you do that depends on the kind of phone you have. I've found that best place to get instructions for that is Google and/or Youtube.

Here's how I move files from a phone to a computer. Plug your phone into the computer and open your file folder to this PC. The phone should show up there. Then just double click on the icons to get to the files. Sorry about the sideways pics.

Terry,

I have a Google Pixel 4 and I have to tell it I want to transfer files by USB cable.

Tell us what kind of phone you have and Norman, Me, or someone can probably point you in the right direction. You'll find that it's really easy, once you get the process defined.

the very short answers are:

Yes- fast and easy to making a very simple play-along track*

No- To running it on a cellphone *

*qualifiers:

there is elementary setup and learning required that some may find difficult, just like any software. It doesn't pop out of the box and play "Way To Survive" out of the gate. Very Happy

Its a very large program and requires MEMORY SPACE , thus it will not fit on a cellphone

BIAB is available to be acquired on an ext. hard drive , this is perhaps the recommended format. Its not plug and play but darn close.

YouTube tutorials are in abundance to get started in a very simple mode. The forum BIAB section is full of really fine users as well.

BIAB needs to be told the chords to a song before it can produce a track for playback.

BIAB does contain an auto feature which allows it to learn chords to a song but sometimes it only learns 80% correctly, the other 20 % are Jazz Improve !

Opinion:
Don't waste time thinking about it, grab a BIAB package and get started, you will not be sorry.
