Hello All,
I am sure this is a tired question here, but I had plans to buy my first pedal steel guitar some years ago, but finances got in the way.
I am now wanting to know, again, what a good 1st pedal steel guitar for beginners is?
My price range is about $2,000. Would that get me something decent? These are expensive pieces of equipment, and I'd rather just get something that would last me a while than some real basic pedal steel guitar.
I have picked an acoustic 6 string guitar for about 3 years now.
A real country sound is what I am after
Thank you all in advance,
Eric Ibarra |

Also look at GFI guitars "Expo" model (I have one).
Probably a bit more than 2 grand for a single neck. Perhaps less than that if used (seen examples, also check the forum from time to time).
Personally, I would avoid entry or starter models as you are already a musician and might want a "pro" level instrument. |

BMI also has some models around your price range. |

Eric, I've seen some incredible deals on this forum recently. Here's an example. Feel free to email me anytime if you'd like my opinion.

tough to beat this deal, Sierras are great guitars in every way. I ended up with 2 Sierras for awhile, I was so happy with the first one

I would say the best buy in the house is the Justice guitar. They stay in tune really good and play smooth as butter.
Way more than a beginner guitar. You get your money's worth from Fred. _________________ Just north of the Weird place, south of Georgetown |

Also, are there any good websites or people to follow on understanding pedal steel guitars better? |

I'd pick up a Zum Encore in a heartbeat-I toured with one for a few months- played great and stood up well- of all the guitars mentioned, this one sells for more in the used market than new- should you ever want something more you can count on an easy sale. |

Besides the pedal steel guitar itself, what are other must have accessories to have?
Thanks,

These are great recs: Zums by Doug Earnest, GFI, Justice, the one Ron posted. Also Mullen Discovery used is approximately in the budget range. You can PM folks in the thread with questions, some of us may have opinions...
Dallas isn't that close but there's a lot of members there, you can let the word out https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/memberlist.php?mode=location&order=ASC&start=4140
You can look up used sale prices on reverb (and maybe a few on ebay, very few) on common steels to see that you're in the ballpark: https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=gfi%20pedal%20steel&show_only_sold=true _________________ - keyless Sonny Jenkins laps stay in tune forever!; Carter PSG

Eric you are on THE website to understand PSG better.
The only thing you may need is a good reverb. And an amp that is clean and works well for the steel guitar. |
