Michael died about 5 years ago, March 19, 2015. I thought there was a thread here about it, but I can't find it.

Is this supposed to be about the death of singer Steve Martin Caro, who died a couple of months ago in January?

Personally, I always was, and still am, a fan of The Left Banke. And their tunes lay real nice on steel.

So sorry, it's Steve Martin who died recently. I was a big fan of Michael Brown's group the Beckies:

Very nice Jim, the string arrangement is also great!

Yeah, that's real nice, Jim. Smile

When this song came out, I was still a pretty serious, if young and clueless, classical piano player, and this is one of the earliest moments when I realized that rock and roll wasn't all garbage. I had to be convinced. OK, I was a young super-preppie from Boston back then. Anybody that knows me now finds this hard to fathom.

But shortly after this, I got into the blues and then it was all over. Wink

Thanks, Joachim. The string parts were all done by the great Alex DePue (www.alexdepue.com).

In '68 i bought Fleetwood Macs first album, it's been later called the garbage can. It's how I actually learned how to play guitar. But to this day I'm divided by liking intricate harmonies or the Blues. I think Blues players are mostly concentrating on perfecting their craft. No wonder when they get that good at it. But its not for me as a listener and player.

It's never once crossed my mind that I had to choose between them. They can both be great at times, and they can both be uninspired and/or uninteresting.

And in fact there are blues forms with intricate harmonies (Ellington, Mingus, Monk and Oliver Nelson come to mind). Or for classic blues, horn arrangements on Bobby "Blue" Bland records from the 50s and 60s.

Oh yes, Pete. Here's a Left Banke song with an R&B influence:

Godspeed Steve.

Walk Away Renee is a timeless song and still swim in it's aura today!

The Left Banke helped define the sound of the emerging 60's music.

Godspeed Michael!

The Beckies and Stories (Brother Louie) were Mike's follow up bands of the Left Banke.

Always loved this song. Back in the early 80’s I used a Tascam 234 4-track cassette to record a bunch of my favorite tunes. While doing this one I discovered that one of the 3 harmony parts just stayed on an octave of the root throughout the entire chorus.... makes a lovely suspended chord in places. What brilliant and wonderful writing and arranging!
