The other day I pulled my D8 Stringmaster out of the case to try out some pedals with it. I didn't want to take the time to screw the legs on - and I didn't really have floor space for it, so I just laid it on my lap. It's big & heavy, but it worked better than I thought it would.

I've been playing it on my lap for a few days and I'm starting to get used to it.

Anyone else done/doing this?

I haven't tried this as I just have regular 8 string lap but I do a lot of behind the bar bends and thought that playing a console on your lap would provide alot more stability, quite interested in any comments.

I used to like to play my Console Grande on my lap at times.
It was heavy, but comfortable and less wobbly than the original legs.

I do personally prefer a console steel to be free standing, for most situations however.

Hey John, I'm just getting into behind the bar pulls and the weight of the console is a help for me.

Hey David that's good to know. Maybe I can justify buying a console now. Nought my lap steel down your way - Livingston Tennessee- Melbert guitars
Really nice lap steels.

I love the feel of a console on your lap while playing for short periods of time. My long scale Stringmaster T3 vibrates through my legs and I can feel it in the hardwood floors, barefoot of course. It’s not that awkward either, funny enough. My Console Grandes sound great on my lap as well!

What about a compromise? Has anyone ever played with just the front legs on the floor and no rear legs. The rear of the guitar would sit on the lap. In breaks it just needs to be rested on the seat. If nobody has done this then I'm claiming this as the Sattler position. Very Happy Very Happy

You've inspired me! I'm going to have only the 2 left legs on my D8 and prop it up on my left leg. At the same time I'll have only the 2 right legs on my T8 and prop it up on my right leg. That way I'll be able to play 5 necks without having to move!
