I just completed installing a TELONICS 84 pickup into my ZUM C6 neck. I've been tweaking the poles as it says for the "Grawl & Bell" sound.
I'm curious of what other have to say about that pickup. So far so good, but I have to play out with it and tweak it some more.

I am a big fan of Telonics but this pickup was not for me.

| Sounds good to me, I like mine, but it takes a while to adjust them. I assume you read the Telonics manual on how to do this. |

I read the manual and called Telonics and adjusted it for days and never got the 3rd string right.
I have a quick change MSA 12 string and can swap check and compare pickups.
Just personal taste and picking styles.
I prefer single coil 1st and then XR-16 and Alumitone.
Anyone need a Telonics 12 string quick change pickup buzz me.

My favorite pickup is the "Telonics" 206 the one with two blades,I don't think that I'm smart enough to adjust the others,plus I'll probably break something.

I have a 1975 MSA and a 1976 MSA. Both identically built. Birdseye maple. One has a 427 (409) Telonics. The other has X-12 (X-10) Telonics. The 427 is a little mellower than the X-12. I prefer the X-12 which leans toward a PP tone. It takes a lot of pole tweeking to balance the tone and volume per string, but once you find it it's awesome. The smaller guage strings require more drastic adjustment to remove the brittle tone.

Lots of tweaking and playing to get the Unbalanced results...I replaced BL710s with these..strong improvement at any volume....Larry

Ron I have experimented with quite a few of the Telonics pickups, they're all good, but take a bit of setting up - I found the 84 a little too brightish for my tastes, and currently have 409's on one of my Zum Hybrids which sound amazing - a little fatter mid range, and also X10's on my Red Hybrid -- which is little more meaty again - lovely silky highs on both of these pickups ... I think if I could only have the one it would be the x10's ... very subtle difference to the 409. I also have 409's on my MCI Rangexpander and that guitar sounds outstanding as well.
I did try the 206 in the C6th neck of an earlier Zum I had and that was pretty good too - just no adjustment available with it. But everyone hears things a little differently so I guess it all comes down to personal preference.
I do believe Jay Dee is using X10's in one of his PP's as well and loves them.
