I've always wanted to build a lap steel with levers underneath. This would leave your right hand free as is the case with PSG.
The concept I had in mind: Your right leg would strap into a saddle of sorts on the bottom of the guitar so that it wouldn't move when you actuated one or the other levers positioned on both sides of your left leg, RKL and RKR obviously.
Like a console guitar, the levers would fold up into the body for transport. This would require a routed channel to a changer on the right or conversely a short channel for connection to a changer on the left.
Maybe the mechanism could be designed so the two levers could easily and quickly be connected to different string fingers for particular songs. All strings then would have the option for pitch change.
Some day.
