My old blue lacquer Zum was in need of some TLC. I picked it up in April of 1979. It was the only guitar I played up till around 2003? All the Smokey joints, fairgrounds, rodeos and such we’re really showing. The finish had really aged, not in a good way either. The underneath was yellow with tar and nicotine, then all the dirt that had merged with the oil. Yuck, what a mess. Here are some pictures starting with the day I picked it up. Notice how much younger the guitar looks. 🤠 then you can see all the nastiness that collected over the years followed by the new stain and logo. I hope to get the body back in the next week or so then I can start putting her back together. All the parts have been cleaned and polished, changer rebuilt. I’m getting anxious to hear it again. It always had a big sweet tone to it.

Looks great! That would make me plenty nervous to do. Amazing how the blue had faded to brown.

I asked Bruce’s permission to use that logo. I knew he didn’t have any of the original logo stickers. He said sure and he wished he had gone to that logo years ago since everyone refers to the guitar as a “Zum” anyway. The pearl white sure pops against that blue. He used that logo on number 1000 and another special guitar as well.

A wonderful project to restore your keeper guitar to it's original glory. That's a masterpiece and absolutely worth the effort. Great work Randy.

Oh what a Beauty. I do not remember the guitar but I do remember the first time I saw Randy he was about that age. Doing one of those KVOO radio shows on a hot July afternoon with Billy Parker out of Tulsa. Boy, could he ever pick. My first time to see a real pedal steel and a real pedal steel picker. J.R.

Now it’s my turn to get to work putting her back together. Picked the body up from the finisher today. What a job he did! Now I’m scared of scratching it. 🤠

Wow, that looks beautiful. I can't wait to see what it looks like when its all back together. If it sounds half as good as it looks, you'll have the best sounding Zum on the planet!

Brave man and you seem quite confident in doing the working parts . Not that brave here. My Franklin I would like to tighten it up some but not being brave enough to try it. Ron
