The Texas Steel Guitar Association wants to express our condolences to the family and friends of Dean Baxter. He has been a member of the TSGA since its inception, a member for 39 years. He has been one the fiddle players for the TSGA Jamboree during this time. He passed at 11:00 A.M. today 1/13/2020 due to complications with the flu. Albert and Debbie Talley and all the TSGA membership express our sorrow and shock at this unexpected occurrence. For some time he served as the Chaplain of the TSGA.
When more is known as to services we will let you know.

My condolences to Dean's family and his TSGA family. I never met him but I certainly had the pleasure of enjoying his playing every year at the TSGA show. He was an important part of the house band for many years and will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear this. Dean and I have been friends since the early 80's and always joked about the time at the ISGC when the room was so cold and neither of us had a jacket. I went to Scotty's booth and bought him an ISGC jacket.
He said that he still had the jacket somewhere.

Dean always played on my set at the TSGA.

He will be surely missed.

I first met Dean at the Dallas Show. It was my first visit to a steel guitar show, and he was one of the very first persons that I met there. I saw and talked with him many times in St. Louis, and Dallas whenever I went to the shows. He was one of the best fiddle players, and I would place him in the same category as Johnny Gimble, and Vassar Clements. All hero's of mine, even though I never played the fiddle. So sorry to hear of his passing. Rest in peace.
