Here's a short break on a G minor song that features some very cool moves. A student of mine requested it so I thought it would be a nice to share with everyone.
The song is Freight Train by Alan Jackson.

what a cool solo. i feel like in the second bar the third beat should be a Db, not a D. instead of playing the D on the 6th fret on the 7th string, i'm hearing it on the 7th fret of the 8th string, sliding down to the next note. what do you think?
maybe i just want to hear it that way because it's easier to play! |

Awesome work Alex, the only thing I hear is the next to last note at top of page slides back to 5th fret, instead of playing 9 at 6 fret.
I'm still trying to get the last part of the second break on the record. |

Hey Gary,
That's also what I think it SHOULD be, because our ear want an A instead of an Ab since we're in the key of G minor. It would also be easier to play the way you describe. When I was transcribing it, that was my initial instinct, but after playing it with the recording a few times, I had to concede that it is effectively an Ab, hence fret 6 string 9. The slide gives it away too.
Now, if I was to play this lick, I would probably play it with the A instead, sliding down on string 7 from fret 6 to 5. But that's not what I hear on the recording. Cheers! |
