This is a session track I did for a local singer songwriter in Charlotte a couple of years back The Hardest Thing by Mitch Hayes. S10 Sho Bud Pro I , early 80's tracked direct to the board.

This is one of my favorite sessions but also one of my favorite recorded Steel tones recorded at a local Pro Tools Studio. No amp, I think I may have been plugged into an outboard compressor, not sure.

Gives us an idea of what can be accomplished "direct" Of course we all hear things differently and that's the beauty of it, we are different.

Tony you sounded great... did you just play steel or other stuff as well?

I’ve actually gone back to a Mic, but when I’m playing without a track I hear some amp hum in the dead zones... what do used to eliminate that?

Thx Dale, just Steel on this track. The Studio Eng/Producer is also playing guitar, he's quite good at all he does. He waited for me to track the Steel then countered what I played. His wife is the background vocalist. Together they have a pretty darn good band around town. Very Happy

This was a nice track for me to play on, its my music style all the way .

Tony

What a nice song and great arrangement. Steel sounds superb, very Lloyd like IMHO. Tone dead on the money and the mix is spot on. Great job by everyone.

Dale,

You may want to try a noise gate on the noisy track and see if that helps.

regards,

Mark thx for the nice comments. The Engineer/Producer is a multi instrumentalist and comes from the same music genre overall, he plays some Steel as well. He "gets it" with regard to the Steel ! I've tracked maybe a dozen times with him , always direct, and to my ears the final mix was spot on for each session. The Steel was never buried or lost .

He's still running Pro Tools 8 on XP ! Very Happy

He's still running Pro Tools 8 on XP!

That is all he needs apparently and the better the players, the less processing you need to do. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Happy Holidays Tony
