I've checked updates, and searched for new drivers as recommended; no joy.
VU meters work, but no output on built-in speakers and headphones. Any ideas? _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

Check the sound panel/Output Device (used to be called Default Playback Device). Speakers should be set as default.

Excellent, thanks Jack.
All I had to do was select 'speakers' for output (makes sense.) _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

I find that Windows 10 updates sometimes mess up the sound settings. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

That was the gist of what I was finding in sites referring to the problem.
That's OK, Win10 is still the best free operating system this duffer has had.
Seems I've noticed very little traffic in this column since it's been entrenched. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |
