There is a great version (c6 non-pedal) in Doug Beaumier's 25 tune song book.

I worked through this tune and it does sound great on C6. Doug's book and Cd are a bit pricy but you get what you pay for. The text is easy reading, it lies flat on your music stand and there are backing tracks for everything. There's a bit of everything in the mix. (Elvis, Hawaiian, Hank W.)

I personally rank this as the best $ I've spent on lessons and there's a lot of stuff I bought that just sits, but doug's book gets a real workout...
Worth the money.

Hi guys,

I like the Sleepwalk tab that Greg offers here, but when I listened to some versions on U tube they dont sound the same.

Some of the tab does not corresponds to the real song.
What is right?

And, what tempo should it be played? Very slow, just slow, fast or what?

There so many versions, pedal steel, lap steel and many other instruments.
I listened ia to the Ventures version, and it sounds more rock like.

Please help to get the right version.

The black and white Santo&Johnny version is obviously the original version, how did they do compose it?
And did he always play the triple neck Fender?

Miller, thanks for mentioning my lap steel song books. In my recording of Sleep Walk I tried to copy Santo as closely as I could. It's not easy to do. His playing sounds deceptively simple, a lot of single notes, single strings, but it's very hard to get his sound. Most steel players overplay the song, stuffing in additional fills, licks, and full chords that were not in the original recording, and thereby losing the original charm and feel of the song IMO.

Santo played the song on C#m7 tuning, I believe, which is very close to C6. When I was studying the song I discovered that most of the song... the two string harmonies and melody could be played as Santo played them on either tuning, C#m7 or C6.

Wayne, there are many versions of this song posted on the forum. Doug's is by far the easiest to learn and sounds the best to me. Herb Steiner has an excellent CD with backing tracks and Tab in C6 and C#m7.

When reading about different diminished chords in Wikipedia I stumbled over this:

Where does this chord appear in Sleep Walk? I checked a lot of versions and listened down my own from the original recording but never heard a dim chord there. Any idea?

I have no Problem playing this song the way everybody does.The question was about music theory. I need no tab, just the answer where in this song wikipedia wants a diminished chord.

I thought this forum section would fit best for this.

I worked up an E9th tab for "Sleepwalk" directly from the sheet music as written by Santo, John & Ann Farina.
There is no diminished chord anywhere in the music. Very Happy

I've played it in pedal E9th and non-pedal C6th for many years and really enjoyed it ...but in the original C#m7 it really sings as do the harmonics. Do yourself a favor and work it out it in the original tuning.

I too thought there isn't any dim chord in this song but it's good to hear from Erv that I am right.
Yes, I play it in C# too but not in the C#- tuning. I'll check this out.

I tried out the diminished chord at home last night.
I used it as a lead-in chord to get to the Bridge.
I play it in C, so right before I got to the F with the AB pedals down, I went 1 fret back with the diminished chord created by using AB + "B to Bb lever" + E's-Lowered.
I guess that's what they were talking about???
