I use a Goodrich pot pedal and have a Carl Martin Delayla delay.
I have always plugged it direct into the back of my Steel king send and return
effects loop and works great. But, if I plug steel > volume pedal > Delay > amp in line
it seems to like react with my volume pedal and makes a very nasty scratchy noise
through the amp when you push the volume up and down?? The only reason I found this out is because I have recently purchased a new tone master Twin reverb and because of no effects loop ,that is the way I had to plug it in and that was the result! Does anyone know why it would do that? |

Did you try going from the steel to VP to amp input and eliminate the delay to see if responds differently without any noise issues?
If the signal is OK without the delay, you may want to look at the power supply you using with the delay pedal? _________________ I survived the sixties! |

Len, the Delayla has its own hard wired power supply.
If I plug steel > delay > volume pedal, it's no worries.
It does not sound right to me though plugging it in that way. |

I did a test without the volume pedal in the mix and just going straight from guitar to the Delayla . It works but it does sound like it has a lot of Bass in it. Also it lowered the volume quite a bit. In other words when I unplugged the Delayla and went from my guitar straight into the amplifier the sound was twice as loud! |

If the problem only occurs when you add the delay, then it's highly likely the delay is causing the problem. It could be defective, or just poorly designed. Try another delay unit or reverb pedal, and see if you still have the same problem. |

What power supply are you using with that delay? What are its specs? |

I plugged my Telecaster into it with no volume pedal.
One again signal was poor and when I turned the volume
up on my Tele , that terrible scratchy noise was back!! It will just not
accept any volume pot before it as it goes crazy scratchy!!
It is a high quality delay pedal that was not cheap! I just hope it can be fixed?
I was just hoping that some electrical wizz on here might have an
Idea on what they think might need replacing inside going on what I have said.
Thanks for all the reply's |

Jon the pedal is a Carl Martin Delayla .
Hand made in Denmark. It has no specs on the back.
It is hard wired 240v power.

I'm guessing it's leaky voltage somewhere in the pedal. The leaked voltage is running from the input to whatever potentiometer is in front of it. The pedal needs to be repaired, if that's an option. _________________ GFI S-10 P U, Moyo Volume, Fender Steel King, Fender 5F4 Super-Amp |

Yes, it sounds like the pedal is leaking DC voltage, and that's not something to be ignored. If it gets too bad, it could actually ruin (read: burn out) your pickups! At the very least, it will eventually ruin your pots. |

My amp starts hissing also once delay is plugged in,
almost as if the volume has been turned flat out |

One of the downsides of using pedals with built-in power supplies is that if the power supply fails, it can't easily be replaced. Depending on how old the pedal is, it might not be cost-effective to get it repaired. I'm guessing it's no longer under warantee?
Sounds like the pedal is no longer functional and you should use something else. _________________ GFI S-10 P U, Moyo Volume, Fender Steel King, Fender 5F4 Super-Amp |

I have had this pedal for a long time and i personally have not heard a delay
that gives me the sound this one does. To my ears any way. It adds that old tape echo effect and it's like it has tubes in it also, it just warms the sound. I'll send it off to the Doc |
