| Yesterday I removed the tuner trays to see when my steel was made. The only writing/numbers that were inside the tuner tray pockets were these numbers (38024) nothing else. Does anybody know what those numbers represent? The steel came in a black case. Thanks |

No idea what those numbers would be. Are those numbers under both pans? They stopped writing the date in about 1960. If it's the original case it's probably mid 60s or later. On the tuner pans below the Fender logo does it have a patent number or Pat Pend? A patent number would indicate post 1965. If the buttons are slightly hexagonal shaped rather than rounded oval that would suggest late 60s/70s.

| If the strings are still off it you can pull the control plate and get the codes off the pots, they give a roundabout date. |

There is a patent number below the Fender logo on both of the tuner pans. Also the tuner buttons are slightly hexagonal. I guess that answers my question. Thanks

In that case, pot codes probably won't help - they'll almost certainly be 1966. Fender bought a load of them and used them for about 10 years. |

| I recalled that at some point Fender put a patent number under the front decal. It's hard to find a picture of that, but I did find one from a for sale ad for a dated '66 model. It had the regular old kluson tuner buttons. So I'm thinking Jerry's is more late than mid '60s. |
