Topic: Old Mel Bay Lap Steel Book using E7 tuning (B D E G# B E) |

I picked up this Mel Bay lap steel book written by Roger Filiberto in 1969. No where in the book does he say what tuning he is using, however this book is volume 2 and he most likely covered tuning in volume 1. But from looking at a 6 string chord and his chord diagrams, I was able to figure out he was using an E7 tuning (B D E G# B E). I've not used this tuning before. Anyone else tried it out?

| E7 dates back to the thirties, if not the twenties. It's the great-great granddaddy of the modern 10-string pedal steel E9 tuning (strings 10-9-8-6-5-4). |

I use that tuning and a variant, B D E G# C# E. It workswell for many things.
Filiberto used to have a guitar teaching studio in New Orleans, and I
met him in his elder days, a very nice man. |

I’m currently using that tuning, (down a tone to D7) as my default tuning.
ACDF#AD. It’s even better on my 7 string though, where I put a D on the bottom
DACDF#AD.
Maybe not a versatile as the 6, 11, or 13 tunings that are common, but I think it’s more useful than the open major tunings that are popular.
I perhaps should note that my lap steel playing is pretty much exclusively blues and rock.
