I'm looking at converting an E9 guitar down a whole step to D9. I just find that lower range more helpful and I like the timbre of it.

Aside from string gauges, what are the things I need to consider in terms of adjustments.
--Bell crank positions?
--Changer positions?
--Return spring tension?
--???

That's what I do with my Marlen. I love it tuned down to D. I didn't set mine up at E9 to begin with so I am not sure what adjustments you'll have to address. I wouldn't think you's need to change gauges? Mostly like changer positions and I am not sure about the others.

Big fat round low end at D which is what I like as I mostly play solo.

I am sure the experts on here can help.

When I tuned my C6 down to B, I didn't have to do anything except adjust some of the changes slightly.
So although E to D sounds drastic, why not just try it and see?

It would all depend on how "tight" the guitar was set up originally. But if you change the string gauges (going up a couple of thou on all strings), I doubt that anything else would have to be changed, other than some fine tuning at the changer.
