At some point down the road, i may shop for a double neck 8 string console steel. i'm curious about which of these 2 you folks would prefer and why:
Fender Stringmaster vs. Remington.
Looking forward to your opinions and preferences. dan |

Different sounds, which should be the principal determinant.
For me, the difference is that the Remington is far, far less likely to give you mechanical or electronic headaches. |

Remington. Better tone. (IMHO) more solid construction, and as Ken mentioned..... far less likely to have problems. Love mine.... and I have had a couple. The stringmasters I owned were cranky and had a fairly thin tone comparably ............. jus sayin' _________________ Melbert 8, Remington S8, Silk 6 string, Rick B6, Tremblay 6 lap steel, Marlen S-10 4&4, Prestige Guild M75 and Artist Award, Benedetto Bravo, Epiphone Century Electar (the real one) and a bunch of old lap steels.... mostly Ricks and Magnatones' |

I own several Stringmasters and never had any trouble with any of them.
I don't know what you are talking about.

Not trying to stir anybody's pot with this thread, but I kind of suspected there could be some diverging opinions on this topic. A few things have floated to the top to help me decide.
First, thoughts have come full circle and i'd go with the single 8 string, and it seems that Fender didn't make it with a long scale.
Second, the Rem's stainless steel hardware is appealing.
Third, it would be nifty to play one of Herby's guitars.
Lastly, while I don't play the price tag, money is a factor.
So maybe a nice Remington single 8 in natural finish will jump out and follow me home someday. I'm grateful for all the help.
Thanks very much, guys....dan |
