Really nice video that unpacks what Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" is all about, why it was so earthshaking, and comparing jazz modal to bebop playing. Enjoy!
Wasn't sure where to post this, do we need a new General Music folder???

Very interesting. I wish my understanding of music theory was strong enough to understand all that is discussed. I understand basics of modes, and what they are. However, how to apply specific ones (or, in this case, how they WERE applied) kind of looses me. But certainly both Miles and Bird have had heavy play time in my life of listening to music, and the sonic and emotional impact of the two styles needs no music degree to feel. _________________ Bringing steel guitar to the bukid of Negros Oriental! |

Douglas, I don't fully understand all that's discussed in the video, but just understanding how the album was a radical break from the bebop tradition was fascinating and a good history lesson.
Kind of like what it must have been like hearing steel guitar played by most prominent pro's on non-pedal steels until the early 1950s, then to hear the radical new sounds coming from Day and Emmons with pedals; game changer for sure in terms of the possible language and vocabulary of steel guitar! _________________ E9 INSTRUCTION
