i used to have a Doug Jernigan album where he played "Jesu, Joy of Man's Deisiring". It was proof that gifted steelers can play pretty much anything well.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a Paul Franklin audio post where he was playing something baroque-like to my ears. Sadly, i lost track of it. Would someone kindly post a link to it, please?

i'm hoping there is more of this stuff out there, but i'm unable to scare any up. Any suggestions?

Many thanks...dan

Dan, you should hear Doug Livingston play solo Bach pieces at the Phoenix steel show. Pretty unbelievable...

Doug (known as Earnest Bovine here) is the hands down master of solo steel playing Bach... absolutely mind blowing to me

Dan, since I was raised on classical music as a youngster, I was intrigued when I saw (I think on Tom Bradshaw's site), an album entitled "Classical Steel Guitar." I bought it! It was played by Marshall Hall, on Alpha AR4560, I believe from Florida. I have no idea if it is still available anywhere now!

Thanks so much for all your posts. It seems the recording quality makes a big difference, especially with steel. That might be part of why the piece by Paul Franklin sounds so good...it really is good, and also recorded very well.

i'm still trying to dig up more Doug Livingston stuff, and looking for the Alpha label album amd Randy Beavers piece. i may have to spring for Spotify someday, as some fairly obsure stuff can be found there...will have to ask a friend who subscribes.

Bill, your links are spot on. Many thanks for lots of enjoyable listening made possible by them.

The Bach solo suites for violin lay very natural on the E9 tuning without overdubs.
