Would some of you National owners or experts tell me how many of these 1935 7 String Steels were made?

This one was purchased from the late Charlie Norris, and the video below gives some of the history.

MEMORIES OF CHARLIE NORRIS

Thanks for the information.

No shipping records from the original National company are known to still exist. Based on the serial number compilation in Mark Makin's book, it looks like around 6-700 were made of all kinds - not bad for a 3-year run. Off the top of my head, I'd say that maybe 10% of the ones I've seen were 7-strings.

So, as a very broad estimate with lots of caveats, I'd say 50-100.

Howard, a great steel which I am sure you are proud to own. These steels are certainly made with very
special castings. I contacted Todd Clinesmith in May, 2017 regarding the cost of a similar casting, as of
that date, and here are some of his thoughts:

to the National 7 string shown which I own, and that was previously owned by Charlie Norris. Here is
only a portion of his reply:

Hi C,E,
It's tough to say. A pattern could cost thousands of dollars
to have built with those details. ------

Todd gave me a very detailed and lengthy answer regarding preparation of a similar casting cost and
costs for additional castings, which I greatly appreciated.

I will probably never get rid of my National in my lifetime. Wonder if there will ever be other cast steels
similar to these Nationals? Maybe others will give their opinions?

Hopefully, others will share photos of their 7 string Nationals.
