My friend Sean Allen was playing The Salmon Festival in Alaska and sent me a photo of Norm. Dig the tie dye ❤️

Maybe everybody but me knows about this, but what is going on with the solid yellow where the fretboard would normally be seen?

Is that a lighted fingerboard?
I like the big light he clamped on the front leg. I could have used that last weekend at an evening outdoor gig.

Good one, Lee. Can someone explain what Norm's doing playing with these people? Confused

Salmonfest, originally billed as Salmonstock.

Looks like a great event.

They actually sound real good! I have a video clip on my iPhone of them playing Swinging Doors....and Norm nailed his parts just like the record!

I think that was a Hal Rugg

Was that farm raised or wild caught Salmonfest?

{groan! } Laughing

I presume Mr. Hamlet was their third choice for steeler, after Steve Fishell and Pete Finney.

[quote="Brint Hannay"]Really, isn't anyone else curious about the appearance of the steel in the picture? The front apron shows the guitar is a GFI, but...

Don't know about the yellow...but it is a GFI...

Norm was playing a doubleneck GFI with Hag's sons Ben and Noel...

The airlines were tearing it up every week and I took it to"Steel Guitars of Nashville"to have it fixed...

I made Norm a"Brand X"case...no more problems,AFAIK...

Not sure I get the joke, but happy to be included in the stellar company of Mr Fishell and Mr Hamlet. And I'm very happy to say I've known them both for almost 40 years. But I don't know the other people in the photo, and I'd guess they've never heard of me either! I've had some great musical visits to Alaska, including one show in the 80's with a similar vibe as the photo (a little tie-dye is fine with me!).

Having Norm still out there playing because he clearly loves it is a real inspiration; I caught one of the shows the current Strangers did in Nashville with Kris Kristofferson not too long ago and it was a magical night, besides getting to catch up with Norm a little bit.

And I do enjoy getting to play in many varied, non-traditional settings, along with a lot of gigs over the years with some of the country music greats.

It was meant in a complimentary way, Pete - have seen some of your playing on YouTube and it provides me with both inspiration to keep working at it, and despair at how far behind I am!

Thanks for the kind words, Don... and I wasn't offended in the least, just curious.

And I get both humbled and inspired all the time myself in this town, believe me!

That is a lighted fretboard Mario got from some guy in the UK, and installed on Norm's GFI. I talked to him about it when he was in Charlotte a few months back.
