I'm wondering if the new tariffs might bring at least some Peavey manufacturing back home. All my Peavey stuff is American and I like it that way.....

Peavey is moving most of its manufacturing overseas to Asia but will keep it's HQ in Miss employing several hundred employees.

They closed down their EU factories.

Don't think the tariff ploy of Trump will shift anything Stateside, not if the usual ploy is for China to devalue its currency in a currency war which will encourage exports and discourage imports.

The first one to devalue their currency wins.
But it's not that simple, China's economy has made their currency devaluate.

A trade war will ensue, enacting tariff's is part of a trade war effort.

The next step when all else fails is a physical war with armed confrontation.

Take note that rare earth minerals are essential to the manufacturing of a lot of the products we use today. China has access to the lion's share of these elements, while Conus is not allowed to open a mine or import these elements. Whoa!

I know that neo-mag speakers are one example of product that uses rare earth minerals. What else?

Lasers, LED's.

Rare earth metals and alloys that contain them are used in many devices that people use every day such as computer memory, DVDs, rechargeable batteries, cell phones, catalytic converters, magnets, fluorescent lighting and much more.

Lanthanum
This element is used in camera and telescope lenses. Compounds containing lanthanum are used extensively in carbon lighting applications, such as studio lighting and cinema projection.

Cerium
Used in catalytic converters in cars, enabling them to run at high temperatures and playing a crucial role in the chemical reactions in the converter. Lanthanum and cerium are also used in the process of refining crude oil.

Yttrium is used in the process of generating colour displays on devices such as television screens

Praseodymium
Used to create strong metals for use in aircraft engines. Praseodymium is also a component of a special sort of glass, used to make visors to protect welders and glassmakers.

Gadolinium
Used in X-ray and MRI scanning systems, and also in television screens. Research is also being done into its possible use in developing more efficient refrigeration systems.

Yttrium, terbium, europium
Important in making televisions and computer screens and other devices that have visual displays as they are used in making materials that give off different colours.

Europium is also used in making control rods in nuclear reactors.

The list is huge actually.

Wow! But we're pretty far afield from Peavey and pedal steel gear, so hopefully most of the stuff we need is available elsewhere, at least in theory.

Besides being in all electronics;

Rare earth elements play an essential role in our national defense. The military uses night-vision goggles, precision-guided weapons, communications equipment, GPS equipment, batteries, and other defense electronics. These give the United States military an enormous advantage. Rare earth metals are key ingredients for making the very hard alloys used in armored vehicles and projectiles that shatter upon impact.

Afghanistan has a lot of it but the most is in China.

We have a supply of "rare earth" materials all over the west. What we haven't done is develop the refining processes needed, (China was selling too cheap!) When MolyCorp shut down their Ca operation, they had just done an expansion to refine the minerals, but didn't complete it. The company that bought them out claims to have the extraction processes completed by 2020. Canada, Australia, and other "friendly" countries can supply our needs.

We have to wonder why would we default on such a crucial industry and prefer to lag behind.

Word has it that any mining attempt is shut down within days. And importation of it is blocked as well. We're just not being told upfront about this.

The last administration did everything possible to curtail mining and oil expansion. Although the political enviroment is now better, many career employees in the regulatory agencies are adamantly opposed to resource extraction.

Yes and that's the rank and file level. The key is to find out why from the upper levels. And it will end up that we are not being able to progress in this area because it's been designated for overseas development. We're talking globalism. The planet is divided up into areas of manufacture. Conus had the 20th, China will have the 21st.

And I carry on, anyhow

That's why I'm telling you
I just want to celebrate, yeah, yeah
Another day of living, yeah
I just want to celebrate another day of life
Had my hand on the dollar bill
And the dollar bill flew away
But the sun is shining down on me
And it's here to stay

That's why I'm telling you
I just want to celebrate, yeah, yeah
Another day of living, yeah
I just want to celebrate another day of livin'
I just want to celebrate another day of life

Don't let it all get you down, no, no
Don't let it turn you around and around and around and around and around
Well, I can't be bothered with sorrow
And I can't be bothered with hate, no, no
I'm using up the time but feeling fine, every day
That's why I'm telling you I just want to celebrate
Oh, yeah
I just want to celebrate another day
Oh, I just want to celebrate another day of livin'
I just want to celebrate another day of life

Don't let it turn you around and around...
Don't go round
I just want to celebrate
I just want to celebrate
Well, I just want to celebrate
Said I just want to celebrate (celebrate)
I just want to celebrate (I want to celebrate)
I just want to celebrate (I got to celebrate)
I just want to celebrate

I asked PEAVEY about all this and here is there response:

Hello Ron,

Thanks for your inquiry and concern.

Peavey has always had a company culture of never throwing anything out. After 54 years it is time for a garage sale. We are not liquidating our inventory or Peavey assets.

We are selling off excess/obsolete parts, tools, and equipment to gain additional capital that will be reinvested into additional inventory to satisfy demand from our customers. There is no current, new in box inventory being sold.

The report of our death has unfortunately been grossly exaggerated.

Here is a statement from our COO:

"Peavey decided months ago to auction off outdated machines, materials, and goods that are of no use or value to ongoing concerns of the business. In doing so, this frees up a 300,000 square foot warehouse that will now become more profitable for Peavey moving forward."
-Courtland Gray, COO, Peavey Electronics

Also, all can rest assured that we have no intention of shutting down our service/repair facility.

Regards,
Roger Crimm
