I bought an ST-12 here on the forum a couple of months back and am ready to get started on it so thought I'd post the progress as I go.
The guitar plays okay and the changer seems to function well but there are non-original parts. Most notably the block that sits between the two pillow blocks of the changer. It's the part that normally carries the patent number. If anyone has one of those for a 12 string, let me know. Otherwise, I'll have to have a bit of work done to the existing part as it's dimensions are not correct.

Brian,
Just glancing through your photos reveal several issues, along with parts that are non standard, or even missing from your guitar.
Just to point out a few; I find it rather odd that the pickup is mounted in such a way. There are no holes in the neck for the three screws normally used to adjust the height of the pickup (that's usually mounted on a plate). This leads me to believe that the neck may not be original. The aluminum trim strips on the front apron are not original, as they are too wide. Also, several of the cross bars underneath are supported by a long piece on angle rather than several L brackets.
I happen to have a changer back plate for a 12 string PP changer. I removed it from a guitar I bought for parts many years ago. Unfortunately, someone felt the need to drill a small hole in it. This can be repaired and the part utilized if you're willing to use it. I can also provide the four correct #8-32 mounting screws with a #6 head, along with the two #6-32 Allen head screws that may missing. These would normally go up from below (through the end plate flange and the cabinet) and finally into the back plate.

Lynn, take a close look at the top surface of the neck at the corners of the pick-up route (hole) on the side closest to the changer. There is a visible weld there. It's just barely visible in the last two pictures. I was wondering about that.
I'll PM you on the changer part, I doubt I'll find anything better...
FWIW, I played it plugged in a bit this morning and it really does seem to play nicely. The pedal action is much less clunky than I'd anticipated based on what I've read of these things. Sounded pretty good too.

Made a little progress tonight...
Hopefully I'll get the top side apart tomorrow, then the cleaning and polishing starts

Well, progress has been slow but the end plates came back from being re-chromed last week. Damn, chrome has gotten expensive. Nearly $300 to do the end plates. Anyway they are vastly improved.
I wasn't planning on refinishing the guitar but fate had other plans. The mica was loose on the ends so rather than a half-assed attempt to re-glue it, I figured I'd take the mica off and do the job right. It came off easily except for one spot which wouldn't budge. Then it broke. So, I stripped it completely...
I figure I have three options
I can source new Holly Red Mica, anybody know where to get some that would be a close match to what Emmons used?
I can make it a lacquer guitar. I will stop by my local wood place to see if they have any nice figured veneers.
I could do a drum wrap finish like Dennis Montgomery has done on a couple. Those can be very cool finishes.
Feel free to through in your 2 cents. The guitar is not all original so originality isn't a concern.
In the meantime, I'll start cleaning and polishing undercarriage parts. [/img]
