Truman passed away peacefully in the arms of his mom and I at 5:25 yesterday afternoon.

He came to us 11 years ago when my wife and I adopted him from the local shelter one day before his time would have run out. He was the kind of guy who had a life that a movie could be made from! He was such a hunter that would he have been a WWII Mustang, he would have many stencils on his fuselage. His was a personality that can’t be captured in words. He was the special buddy of my dad, who has waited patiently for the last eight years in heaven to see his little guy again. He was with us yesterday I know to take him safely away and he’s now sitting on his lap to wait for us to join them. He was 1000 pounds of personality wrapped into a 23 pound body. And that’s exactly the size of the hole in our hearts right now.

Heartfelt sympathies, Forest. Take comfort knowing that you rescued him and ensured that for the rest of his days he would be loved.

He looks like he was a real sweetheart.

Skeeter,
Ya’ll gave Truman a loving home and he obviously returned the favor with a lot of joy and great memories. Those of us who have lost pets are grieving with you. He was a fine looking little feller. Carl

So sorry to hear this. A whole extra life because you rescued him on the day. It's wonderful what they leave, but so sad that they leave.
Truman is a great looking dog.

Forrest, sorry to hear about your dog. We become so close to our pups, that when we lose them, it’s a difficult time. Hang in there.

So sorry for your loss, my wife and I have gone through this twice, the pain will slowly give way to a precious memory, just remember God never made any thing to be destroyed, you will be together again. Please google the poem "Rainbow Bridge". God bless.

Hey guys,

Thank you all for the kind thoughts, words and wishes. My wife and I couldn’t appreciate them more. I know exactly where Truman is at right now and who he’s with, that does bring peace but we’re missing him terribly.

I think there’s a good reason God spelled backwards is dog. The definition of unconditional love. I think this is gonna suck for a long time.

MY BEST FRIEND©
Written by: Gary Watkins and Bill Shaffer

You look at me with love and trust and it tears me up
You’ve been my best friend since we were both just a pup
I can’t say that it won’t hurt and I won’t pretend
I’ll miss you more than you know, cause you’re my best friend

People think I’m foolish for acting this way
They don’t understand what I’m trying to say
I’ve been through some hard times I thought would never end
But you were there to see me through cause you’re my best friend

I’ve got to set you free from the pain you’re going through
One last ride down the road and you don’t have a clue
To keep you hanging on like this would only be a sin
To some you act just like a dog but to me you’re my best friend

Sometimes I’d be gone for days and you’d be all alone
You would act just like a kid when I finally got home
Looking back on your life makes me start to grin
My life’s been better because you here and you were my best friend

The vet says it’s almost over and it’s tearing me apart
My eyes are burning, it’s hard to breathe and there’s a pain in my heart
You lay your head on my leg to say this is not the end
You’ll wait for me at heaven’s gate cause you’re my best friend

I’ve got to set you free from the pain you’re going through
One last ride down the road and you don’t have a clue
To keep you hanging on like this would only be a sin
To some you act just like a dog but to me you’re my best friend
To keep you hanging on like this would only be a sin
To some you act just like a dog but to me you’re my best friend

Sorry Forrest, I have a similar scenario unfolding with our ol gal Harley we rescued from St. Cloud shelter in 2007. Tough to loose them as they become so much a part of families and dedicated companions. Sorry for your loss.
