I've had this for a while.
It's the single pickup version with the Hawaiian/chimes/Harp knob. If I recall correctly the pot was seized when I got it so I replaced it.
Currently it is wired with a 500k linear pot with the wiper grounded and two different caps from signal to the other terminals. So effectively at the centre (chimes position) the caps are isolated from ground by 250K.
Anyone know what the standard arrangement for this year model was? |

Jeff,
That is exactly right - center of pot is gnd. And a different cap on either end. Here's my 1942 New Yorker...

Thanks Eric for confirming this, any idea of the pot value?
I have a 500K linear in there at the moment but it only gives me a small zone of effect at the ends of travel, thinking of going to a 250K.
My Capacitors are hidden away under the pickup with leads to the tone pot. |

Sorry Jeff, I didn't measure the pot when I had it open  and the value is not stamped on the bottom, just the date code. 250K sounds like a good thing to try.

Did you try an audio taper pot? It may give you more useable range than a linear taper. |

| Ordinarily I would use a audio taper pot David but because this one is set up to work from the center out in both directions an audio pot would not work. |

How do you get to the volume pot on those? I have a '47 that could use a new one.
Did you measure the old pot with a meter? Even frozen it should give a clue, I'd think. |

Unfortunately I don't have the original tone pot to measure.
As far as the volume pot the 1950 has the big pickup casing and there is a cavity though from under it to the volume pot. Mine is a bit noisy I'll replace it one day. |

The 250K linear pot arrived in the mail today. I had plenty of log pots but no linear
Installed and it has given me a slightly more controllable sweep with no apparent treble loss at the middle position. |
