anyone know the most a steel guitar has ever sold for?
this one is definitely up there! I can't see it fetching that much but what do I know.
I think some of David Gilmour's steels just sold at auction but I don't think any of them sold for more than a few thousand.
do we know how long this one's been listed? _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |

Scott Murray: the most expensive I know of was just a few weeks ago - the David Gilmour student-model ZB that went for about $93,000. That one was discussed here:

How's life in Asheville? I lived there in the 80's and have many friends there, including some in the music scene. I always said I would move back to Asheville when I quit my roaming, but alas! It got way to expensive for me the past 30 years. So I chose a mountain town on the other side of the big marble. _________________ Bringing steel guitar to the bukid of Negros Oriental! |

The Jedson lap steel that he toured with in the mid 70's sold for $300,000! I knew that it would go for more than the pedal steels since it had visible provenance but I had no idea. I figured around $8K |

Thanks Doug, I missed that post from May. Great reading about the history. That Bigsby book looks pretty cool... |

$60,000 + shipping. That's funny. I don't care who owned it, played it or built it. There isn't a steel on the planet worth $60k. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox

It only has to be worth that to one person...

thanks for setting me straight fellas!
I didn't realize the Gilmour steels went for so much. is there a list somewhere with all the guitars that sold and the amount?
Douglas-
Asheville is great for the most part. it really has grown a LOT since you were here and the music scene is fairly vibrant. I think I counted close to 15 pedal steel players in town, and those are just the guys I know of. let me know if you ever get back to visit _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |

As always, there are some folks with money to burn. A Rickenbacher Silver Hawaiian sold for $100,000. Wow! |
