Hi Don,
Knew you were a great picker, but artist too? Nice surprise.

Yes I usually go visit my friend Jake who has lived in Pattaya for 13 years. See him about once a year.
Was there in April 2018 and also went to Chang Mai which was real nice.
Have a group of luthier friends in Bangkok, Real nice bunch doing some amazing instruments. They often buy their inlays from me.
Over due for another visit soon. May be going in November, not sure yet.
It's often less than $100 round trip from Saigon and just a tad over an hours flight.

Spend most of my time in Saigon for the last 10 years and keep a house there.
Come to the US for visits about twice a year, but going to try cutting back on the travel now. Age and that 24 hour trip are starting to get the better of me.
Best wishes,
Andy

Andy,
I plan on making a trip to Saigon later this year. November or December. I'll let you know when I arrive there. Also, I'll be staying in Pattaya this coming winter so let's hookup there again. Right now I'm in Oakland, CA.
I don't play steel anymore but I do play guitar everyday for hours.
You can see more of the artwork I've been doing at my website... joedonart.com
Thanks again, Don

Hi Don,
Great Idea, You'll like it in Saigon. Lots of good music and food.
If you like we have a spare room with a bed not often used in my house. Save spending $$ on hotels.
We are located in the center of the city one block from the war museum and two blocks from the old palace and an olympic sized swimming pool left by the French.

Viet Nam is not like Thailand, but also a fun place to be with even worse traffic than the Thai drivers ever imagined.

I'm semi retired now and building guitars and other instruments again.
Keep a few steels and guitars at the house for playing also.
I'll send you a pm with my address and phone number there.
We are in Oregon now for three more weeks. After that I plan to stay in Saigon until next March.

Don, my scheduling email to students typically includes a nice photo of a steel, or anything else I think might interest or amuse students.

Would it be OK to include this marvelous drawing in my next round of emails? I'd forgotten you're a great artist as well as steeler and longtime friend from our early days of trying to figure out "the beautiful beast."

We're living in Olympia, WA now, escaped the L.A. madness 5 years ago, great move for us, kicking back in the rainy countryside now.

All best,
John McClung

Hi John,
Of course you may use it. I'm happy you like it.
Washington state sounds much better then LA. Good for you.
Please do me a favor. Take some simple photos for me of the countryside where you live. I like doing pastel paintings of country roads, trees, cows, barns and stuff like that. joedonmcclellan@gmail.com website .... joedonart.com

You must have grandkids now, yes?
Nice to hear from you, Don
