As far as I can figure, this is my current copedent. It’s an MSA 12 string with 4 pedals and 4 knee levers. There’s a vertical lever which is currently disconnected.

I think it’s probably non-standard.

I was wondering if I should do the work to get it to a more standard tuning for learning purposes or leave it for the time being. Currently just learning the basic stuff from the Winnie Winston book and so far so good (using LKR).

But at some point I’d like to move the pedals over one slot to the right so some adjustments may be inevitable.

Thanks in advance.

Everything looks standard except the right knees. One could lower string 2 (to either D or C#) and string 9 (to C#), and one could raise strings 1 (to G#) and 7 (to G). I have the 1,2&7 raise on a lever, which would free up your pedal 4 for something else... no right or wrong, but the 2nd string lower is REAL useful! 😃

Pretty standard, but I would lower string 2 to D And C# on your RKR. The levers that raise and lower the E strings, I would have 3 of the strings setup the same.

If you had this MSA what would you do for parts for additional changes (or for adding the change to the bottom E)? Do you hunt around for parred our guitars or NOS or new parts?

You don't need parted out guitars. You can get the parts you need from MSA or PSG Parts on the web.

On LKL I would also lower 12 to C# to give the root in the A/F posn. More use than an E# down there.

I would move the 5th string lower from RKL to LKV and have the RKL lower 6 and 11 to F#.

RKR would lower 2 and 9.

Interesting. If I was going to be able to keep my Mullen SD12 (Have to sell to get money to move out of my wife's house), I would consider this change over the raise.

I'm moving all my pedals over one slot so trying to fine tune things.

It appears my lkl and lkr are backwards of most everyone's copedent. Is there any reason to switch them to a more standard setup?

Left knees look correct for Emmons set up..which is what you have there.. people mostly use the F raise with the A pedal, and the Eb lower with the B pedal ..your pedal 1 and pedal 2.. I have both E's on the right.

Charlie Bond’s copedent chart is for U12, not an extended E9.

That’s a pretty good book your chart is covering up there, Paul 👍

Paul, that is E9/B6 for sure. However the R9 on lever B should be to D rather than D#, and the A lever raising strings one and lowering string six is better on LKR and lever B would be better on LKL IMO. Pedals 1,2,3 are E9 ABC and 4,5,6,7 are standard C6 P5,6,7,8.
The one really strange thing is the string 1 and 7 lowering to F on the second (B) pedal. I don't see that working well at all. Perhaps a typo?

You need to lower your second string D# to D on your RKR. It's an essential change. Half of the use of the second string requires it.

For example, playing in G at the 10th fret, the 2nd string is useless if you can't lower it a half step. Also in the key of G at the 5th fret (on the D chord, pedals down).

Seriously, this is a "must have". You'll be crippled without it. Even the lowly Sho~Bud Maverick had it.

Thanks Bob!

I guess it took me owning one of these things before I could understand it, but really the only difference between U-12 and extended E9 tuning wise is dropping the D string and adding another 5th on the bottom?

And the additional pedal changes for the "6th" side.
