Topic: What does a speaker "specially voiced for steel" mean? |

What does it mean when a speaker is advertised as "specially voiced for steel"? Does this have to do with the frequency range the speaker can transmit at a good volume? If that is true, what is the frequency range of a typical E9 10 string?
If I am wrong, please correct.

Specifically voiced for Steel may be a technical opinion. Many prefer a speaker which is mild on the mids and the hi end but strong on the bottom end that can handle the power. If anything the power rating is perhaps more relevant along with the "voiced for Steel".
For example, the JBL / D130 is not voiced for Steel but is also known to be a great compliment for Steel guitar players. So much so that it is said the the BW 15xx series was designed to emulate the JBL D130 but was able to handle the extra power requirement in a 200 watt amp.
Typically we read VOICED for Steel is related to the front end of an amp, such as a PV or Evans etc, meaning the front end has extended CLEAN RANGE with ample EQ ranges without breaking up, more headroom.
Of course all of this is just my opinion. I only own one amp that is made for Steel guitars, (PV N112) and I never use it !

I think that for most purposes, "voiced for pedal steel" means that the speaker isn't designed for breakup or distortion. The vast majority of straight guitar players can't play without some degree of crunch, breakup, distortion, overdrive, saturation, etc., so they prefer speakers (and amps) that distort.  |
