I use to hear that a lot of jazz players would wire two 8 ohm speakers in series, making them 16-Ohms. The theory was that with more resistance the speakers loaded down the amp output more which made the speakers harder to blow or overdrive. I never tried doing that, at the time I had no real interest, the reason I'm interested now is because I have a 16 Ohm speaker and an 8 Ohm amplifier output. I want to know if hooking the 8 Ohm amp output to a 16 Ohm speaker will have any unwanted effect on my amplifier. The amp is solid state.

Probably lower output.
With SS amps, you need to be mindful of the minimum impedance. Higher impedance, (even open circuit), doesn't kill them like it would a tube amp.

Thanks, Bill. I was hoping something like that would be the worst case scenario. Makes sense the RMS power would drop with more resistance.
