---> <---- this close to bringing the Frankenstein GGC back from the dead when crack...I busted a tuning peg. Dang.
Anyone know of options to replace, repair etc? As I mentioned if you've seen this one before it was quite the rescue dog of lap steels, so it's never going to be a showpiece. In this case I just want the holes to line up. I am not seeing too many single machines out there...any ideas?

Darn, that stinks.
I would start email/calling around to folks like Gryphon, Bob Smakula, Elderly, Music Emporium, other vintage dealers (see what kind of parts they have that would be direct replacements. If you're going to go to Gryphon, you could try Eric Schoenberg and Sylvan music in Santa Cruz as well,

It just dawned on me as I search around looking for a replacement that these sure look like they were cut from in-line or single plate tuners which would explain the straight and angled cuts. Any pics out there of original GGC tuners?

I think I read somewhere, the Grover "Sta-Tite" ( series 98 ) was a good replacement tuner?

You can email any shop that has a CG for sale and ask for pix . They will almost always accomodate you, *if* they understand the request. I've asked GC for pix of banjos and lap steels they were afraid to remove the resonator or pickup cover.

| Not that this is much immediate help, but just on casual observation I always assumed these could be replaced with a single or perhaps part of a 3-on-a-plate open gear tuner of some sort, although perhaps with a little drilling and other modifications. Would try to keep the original post though. At least I figured they shouldn't be as near-impossible to address as some vintage Fender console tuners for example. Not a perfect match perhaps, but if it works then it works. And like you said this won't be a beauty prize winner. |

My CG tuners are right and left, they can't be reversed.

Thanks George. I am definitely looking for bass side tuner. Most likely purchase a set of Sta-Tites and use 'em as I need 'em.
