Hi all -
After searching the forum I realized there isn't much conversation happening around the Jim Lill pedal steel guitar course. I realize the Franklin Method is the most comprehensive collections of instruction and information out there (I'm a happy subscriber myself) but I wanted to share that I have had excellent success as a telecaster player turned steel player with the Jim Lill fast track course prior to using the PFM.
Within only ~3 weeks of receiving my steel guitar - I was able to get on stage and pad my Americana band (1-4-5 6m progressions mostly) and give them the quintessential steel guitar bends at key moments (intros, turn arounds, outros). As simple as those moves may be - both the band and the crowd love to hear it.
If you're a guitarist looking to get on stage as soon as possible and already have a basic understanding of chord theory - I think Jim does a great job in getting you prepared for just that. Has anyone else out there tried this course?

Yes - that is correct. I took Jim's course prior to Paul's E9 intro course. They do cover very similar material and Jim's $49 price allows for you to retain the videos permanently rather than renew each year. Jim's intro is pretty thorough for the guitarist who is looking to switch to steel. The curriculum is as follows:

Chapter 6 – Mixing Up/Down
Chapter 7 – 6 Minor Chord

Chapter 10 – b7 Chord
SECTION 3 – LICKS:
Chapter 1 – Swells
Chapter 2 – The Steel Lick
Chapter 3 – Resolve Pedals Up

It was exactly what I needed to get in front of folks with my band and play along to 1-4-5-6m progressions with a few little tasty licks and the classic 'steel lick' in key locations in the song. |
