Hi! I’m new here but have been playing steel for about 10 years. I’ve been playing a Stage One for most of that time. I’m looking to make a step up and would like to ask some advice.

I was looking at picking up a Mullen Discovery. I’ve heard they are great guitars and I like that parts are easily available from their website and split tuning is an option later. I played a Mullen years ago and playability was better than my Stage One. There was less movement required for pedals and levers and it felt tighter and more precise.

I also have been offered a deal on an older Derby. I would save a lot of money going that route. It’s a standard 3/4 set up. I don’t know much about them other then they have a great reputation as well.

I was going for the Discovery but the deal on the Derby has me thinking....

Thanks!

I agree with John. You can't go wrong with an Encore. Price, stay in tune, tone, and play-ability and last but not least, weight, about 43 pounds in the case.
