| Not sure if this is the place to ask. Are there different Hawaiian words for the electric lap steel and an acoustic steel a la weissenborn? Just curious |

Kika Kila, is of course, an interpretation of the sound of the words - Guitar Steel, without the availability of G R S or T. The characteristic absence of those letters in spoken language among Hawaiians was all but replaced by the time the electric steel guitar was developed. I don't know of any Hawaiian distinction between acoustic and electric that would not be revisionistic.

I never hear anything in Hawaiian to differentiate between acoustic and electric. Most everyone plays electric that I know and they all call it kika kila. Next time I'm playing with someone who would know, I'll ask.
